Jawel, een topic voor liefhebbers van relaxed gitaar getokkel.

Mensen die zich hier een beetje mee bezig houden?

Ik begin het steeds meer te waarderen, met name het sub-genre 'freak folk' of 'psychedelic folk', wat vooral inhoudt dat relaxed gitaar getokkel en mooie zang wordt afgewisseld met vreemde muzikale (gitaar) experimenten maar wat vooral draait om het creëeren van een vreemde, vaak hypnotiserende, sfeer.

Maar er zijn nog veel meer fantastische bands die ik nog niet genoemd heb.

Spinvis is vaak erg tof, soms zelfs briljant!
Maar dat is toch meer een soort pop en geen folk. :P

Ook Gong is super vaag trippende hippy folk achtige shit :P (Tenminste, ik denk dat het onder dit genre valt.)

Ik ben van origine iemand die uit de rock/folk komt en pas sinds het laatste jaar (sinds ik begonnen met het gebruiken van middelen) ook naar electronische muziek luistert.. Vind de uitstapjes naar deze nieuwe muzieksoort fantastisch (ben vooral fan van de wat lichte, lieve en dromerige tripmuziek) maar mijn muzikale hart ligt toch echt bij de wat traditionelere sound..

Zit zelf ook als zanger/gitarist in een "freakfolk" bandje..

Hou zelf vooral van akoestische georienteerde singer/songwriter muziek zoals Damien Rice etc..

De bandjes in je post ken ik niet, maar ga ik checken! Thanks!

Ik kan je Coco Rosie echt aanraden. Het is een van mijn ontzettende favorieten en ik vind hun muziek geniaal. Je moet er wel van houden.

Ook The Incredible String Band uit schotland van de jaren 60-70 zijn ook geweldig imho.

Ik vind ze wel erg leuk, maar vind bovenstaande bandjes toch leuker eigenlijk.

The Incredible String Band zal ik eens wat over opzoeken.
Had laatst ook wat opgezocht van Fairport Convention, is ook zo'n oude folk(rock) band en misschien dat dat wel een beetje op The Incredible String Band lijkt, maar ik zal het binnenkort horen.

CocoRosie, Animal Collective en Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice kan ik zeer waarderen
De andere namen komen me niet bekend voor. Joanna Newsom maakt overigens ook wel aardige liedjes, met een harp (geweldig instrument)! -> hier een nummer op YouTube: Sprout and the bean.

Ik heb wel een tip: Khonnor
"He uses low-tech instruments such as an instructional Japanese language course package's microphone, an amp, a guitar, and experimental electronics in his recordings which explore the relationship between language and sound. He has released one album, Handwriting, in 2004." aldus Wikipedia. Handwriting vind ik erg origineel en goed. Hij maakte het toen hij 17 was. "Daylight and Delight" en "Dusty" komen van dat album, ze zijn hier te luisteren -> Khonnor op MySpace

Folktronica is misschien ook een genre dat liefhebbers van (psychedelische) folk et cetera leuk vinden. Ik raad in die hoek Four Tet aan. "Hebden's music typically eschews the traditional pop song format in favor of a more abstract approach—his sound and melodies incorporate elements of hip hop, electronica, techno, jazz, and folk music with live instrumentation." aldus Wikipedia. Everything Ecstatic en Rounds zijn twee albums van hem waar ik fan van ben. Four Tet op MySpace, hier staan geen nummers van die albums bij doch. Ringer (EP) vind ik 'n beetje tegenvallen.

Tot slot wil ik de band Efterklang noemen, wat ook onder folktronica kan vallen. Tripper is een zeer goed album, maar Parades is werkelijk wonderschoon. Ik ben er ondersteboven van! Efterklang op MySpace.

Awesome spul uit eigen land begin jaren 70

The Ton Vlasman LP White room with desintegrating walls, was musically a cross between urban folk and Indian tinted music. The album was released on the Amsterdam-based Flame Record label, an independent run by Don Peijters (originally from Assen, his brother played in the legendary formation The Sound of Imker ! ) but sold very badly at the time. Already in the eighties, record collectors worldwide particulary loved the album cover, made by fellow-Rotterdammer Leendert Le Duc, who was also responsible for the colourfull inner, a design wich would pop up again in 2000, when it was used for the cover of the prog-sampler Fantasio Daze on the (new) Op-Art label. When recording the LP, seven self-written compositions and one cover (the Velvet Underground's Pale blue eyes ), Ton was accompanied by Frans Schoonen (organ, flute and harmonica) and Leo v.d. Vugt (Chincha tumba and tambourine)

This is a real Dutch space folk monster from 1970 originally on Flame records. The title alone tells you where it's coming from! A wildly drug induced album full of dark psychedelia with folky overtones and exotic instrumentation. A totally original album and very highly recommended to fans of weird eerie psychedelia.

misschien dat je een band als death cab for cutie ook kan waarderen. niet psychedelisch, meer emo achtig.
